The new NHS Direct Web Site

Of the huge number of US web sites, http://www.healthcentral.com/ is a good one. It covers lots of individual symptoms and diseases with helpful lists about diagnosis and the tests you might expect and the questions you need to answer on your visit to your "health professional".

The British Epilepsy Association site has information about epilepsy.

The Meningitis Research Foundation has plenty information on their site.

We hope that you are satisfied with the care you receive from all your medical advisors, but in the event that you are not, legal advice can be obtained from specialist firms of solicitors.
Only a small number of solicitors are members of specialist panels and able to obtain Legal Aid to investigate or pursue any claim. They have a useful website that provides information and advice about making a complaint, how to pursue a claim and how to finance it.

Psychology (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and ME (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) are debilitating conditions that can be managed successfully with professional help. The Society of Health Advisers in Sexually Transmitted Diseases  have produced information about sexually transmitted diseases in an easy to read format.

ASH is a London-based charity providing information on all aspects of tobacco and campaigning to reduce the unnecessary addiction, disease and premature death caused by smoking.

The USA Centers for Disease Control has more information about tobacco and resources to help you stop.

Medical journals

Bandolier is a really spiffy little journal written by doctors looking at the best evidence for treatments. The articles are easy to read and understandable and cover a wide range of subjects.

The British Medical Journal usually has a variety of articles. Aimed at doctors but often some of the editorials, news and smaller tidbits are readable.

The New England Journal of Medicine is a little less accessible but gives a view point from the United States. Again, written for doctors.

It allows you to search medical journal articles but you can easily find tons and tons of irrelevant information very quickly.
