Appointments
You may consult a doctor of your choice by
appointment, which can be made either by telephone (020 8866 8981)or by calling at the Health
Centre during surgery hours.
Urgent cases can be seen the same day, although it may not be
possible to see your own doctor.
On most mornings, we also provide a service whereby we can
take your telephone number and a doctor will call you back if you are in need of
urgent advice or if we have been unable to offer you an urgent appointment. The
doctor may be able to solve your problem on the telephone or may offer you an
appointment at a convenient time.
You
can make an appointment with the practice nurse for any of the services they
provide.
If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know.
You can now contact us by e-mail to cancel an appointment.
Please send an e-mail with the subject line 'Cancel
Appointment' to:
prescriptions@gp-e86006.nhs.uk
Please note that this e-mail address is not monitored after
3:30pm so please telephone if you need to cancel an appointment after this
time.
Home
visits
Doctors can visit you at
home if you are too ill to come to the surgery. If you think you need a home
visit, please contact the surgery on 020 8866 0200 as early in the day as possible (before 12
mid-day) as the Doctors need to plan their time and we prefer to send a Doctor
who knows you. If you phone later in the day, the Doctor may be in surgery and
unable to visit until much later.
If you request a Home Visit, a Doctor will speak to you first to determine the
nature and urgency of the problem.
Home visits may be necessary but are often less than ideal. It is much easier to
examine and treat someone in the well equipped surgery than in your home. In the
time taken for one home visit the Doctor can see 3 or more people at the
surgery. In an emergency (such as crushing, central chest pain or sudden, severe
shortness of breath etc) it is safer and quicker to dial 999 for an ambulance.
Some parents are concerned about bringing feverish children out to the surgery.
This is based on ideas from the past. They will not come to any harm and in fact
they have often cooled down and perked up by the time they arrive! They will be
seen quicker than having to wait for a visit.
If you manage to come to the surgery and are feeling bad, we will always try and
see you straight away to save waiting; please tell the receptionist if this
applies.
Prescriptions
All prescriptions are generated
by our computer for clarity and safety. Our computer will help us to know about
any potential conflicts and interactions.
You can take your prescription to any retail Pharmacy for dispensing. Unless you
are exempt, you will need to pay the Pharmacist the Prescription Charge
(currently £6.60) for each item. You can also buy a pre-payment certificate
which may be more economical if you are likely to require more than 14
individual items over a 12 month period (it currently costs £90.40).
Repeat Prescriptions are for medicines you need to take all the time. Once you
are stabilised on a medicine, we can give a 2 month supply at a time - except
for certain potentially more dangerous drugs. You will receive, on the right
hand side of your prescription, a list of all your authorised Repeat
Prescriptions. When you are getting low simply tick the items required, sign and
either post it to us or hand in at reception. You may also fax your request on
020 8429 3087
Please remember to leave at least 48 working hours for us to process your
request before coming to collect it from reception. If you prefer you can send
an SAE for us to return your prescription.
If you have urgent need for a repeat prescription due to unforeseen
circumstances, please let the Receptionist know and we shall try our best to
help.
At certain intervals, usually every 6 months or a year, we will ask you to make
an appointment with the Doctor or Nurse for a medication review,. There are
certain important checks we need to perform to ensure your medicines are still
doing their job and are not causing any problems and that your condition is
monitored.
You can check how many repeat prescriptions you are allowed before we need to
see you on your request form. Please do not delay as the computer blocks any
further issues once you are overdue . If, for any reason, you have been unable
to come in time, please NEVER stop your medicines; let us know the circumstances
and we shall issue a prescription to keep you going.
Certain medicines such as the
Contraceptive Pill or HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) can be supplied in 6
month quantities for your convenience but to do this the nurse or doctor will
need to see you.
Many excellent and important medicines are available Over The Counter (OTC) at
Pharmacies. They do not not need to be prescribed by a Doctor and indeed you can
save yourself a lot of money as many are cheaper than the Prescription Charge.
Pharmacists are highly trained in giving sensible advice about self-help for
minor illness, please ask them.
It is well worth keeping a small stock of useful medicines at home in your
(locked) first aid cupboard , for instance pain killers (analgesics) such as
Paracetamol, Ibuprofen or aspirin (children under 16 and people with asthma
should not take asprin or Ibuprofen) Paracetamol (for example, Calpol)or
ibuprofen syrups(or both) for children, Mild laxatives, Anti-diarrhoeal
medicines, Indigestion remedy (for example, antacids) Travel sickness tablets,
Sunscreen - SPF15 or higher Sunburn treatment (for example, calamine).

returned to us and then have to be checked by a doctor

020
8866 0200

urgent advice or if we have been unable to offer you an urgent appointment. The
doctor may be able to solve your problem on the telephone or may offer you an
