 Genital herpes simplex and pregnancy

Some women suffer form herpes infections (cold sores) in and around the vagina. During pregnancy they do not pose much problem to your baby. However, if you have an attack near delivery, the baby is at risk of catching the virus as it emerges through the vagina. In this case it is safer to have a Caesarian section delivery, so that your baby is delivered by operation and not put at risk. Do let your doctor and the hospital doctor know if you suffer from genital herpes so that we are aware of the potential problem.
