Passive smoking-the risk to your child's health

horizontal rule

Children whose parents smoke breathe in smoke that is the equivalent of 60-150 cigarettes per year. Tobacco smoke contains poisonous chemicals that affect your child's health. We also know that nicotine from cigarettes is passed on to your baby through breast milk.

If you or your partner smoke, cigarette smoke is now the biggest factor contributing to your child's risk of cot death. Children whose parents smoke suffer approximately twice as many chest infections as other children, are more likely to have asthma and are at increased risk of deafness due to glue ear. Children whose parents smoke are more likely to smoke themselves when they grow up and so are at risk of cancer, heart disease and stroke. Give your children the best example, stop smoking now!
